One of the issues that many people have with rooftop solar panels is that they simply do not look aesthetically pleasing. One Boston start-up is looking to change that.
The name of the start-up is Sistine Solar, and their main product is the “SolarSkin”. In essence, SolarSkin is simply a solar panel that is designed to look like normal roofing. These types of panels are typically referred to as camouflage panels.
As can be seen from the image above, SolarSkin panels do a great job of camouflaging themselves. Not surprisingly, the efficiency of SolarSkin panels are not as high as their traditional solar panel counterparts. The SolarSkin specifications are:
- Efficiency: 15% – 17%
- Voltage: 32V
- Current: 7.5A
- Power: 240W
- Dimension per Panel: 65” L x 40” W x 1.5” D (1640 x 1000 x 40mm)
The panels also come in a variety of designs, and the company will work with you on a custom design if needed.
The Solar Consultant team feels that camouflage panels are a necessary technology as home aesthetics are of paramount importance to many people. We hope that these new panels will encourage home owners to give solar PV a chance on their roof.
