The Deelat Industrial Solar Security Light is one of the best products we have ever tested, and received a 10/10 in our review.
The team at Solar Consultant reviewed this Deelat Solar Security Light for 45 days in the grueling cold of Calgary (Alberta, Canada), and would recommend this light to anyone looking for a reliable outdoor solar security light. In this review, we will go over the build quality, illumination, battery life, and feature set of this model.
Build Quality. When we opened the box for testing, it was immediately clear that the light was made of heavy duty materials. The light fixture is encased in a strong aluminum frame, and the LED’s are protected behind a thick piece of glass.
This light is meant to be installed outdoors, and is waterproof as per IP 65. “IP” stands for “Ingress Protection”, and is a standard used to determine how much a particular piece of equipment can be exposed to the elements. With a rating of “IP 65”, this light is dust-tight and can repel water jets from any angle.
The light has a stated working temperature range of -25 C to 65 C (-15 F to 149 F), and we put this to the test. During four days of the test, the ambient temperature in Calgary dropped to below -27 C (-16 F), and the light still performed as advertised. We noticed about a 10% reduction in battery life when compare with an ambient temperature of 0 C, but this is to be expected of any battery powered device.
Illumination. The LED’s can output a total of 1,000 lumens which is fairly typical of an outdoor security light.
One thing to note about this light is that it does not fully turn off when in “Motion Sense” mode. In this mode, the light is on at 150 lumen brightness, and increases to 500 or 1000 lumen brightness if motion is detected. At first we thought the 150 lumen “continuous on” would be annoying, but it really isn’t very bright at that lumen level and did not cause any issues.
Battery Life. The light is powered by a 5W silicon solar panel that charges an 8,000 mAh (3.7V) lithium ion battery.
The advertised battery life is five nights worth of lighting after a nine hour charging cycle under direct sunlight. With our testing, we achieved four nights worth of lighting with about an eight hour charging cycle. We feel confident that we would have reached the advertised battery life if we had tested the product during summer – instead of during the depth of the Canadian winter.
Features. This light comes with a wide variety of features – including a remote control which is rare on these types of products. The features include:
- One Hour Timer: 1 hour 500 or 1000 lumen illumination then switch to Motion Sense. The timer starts when the light fixture detects that its dark outside.
- Two Hour Timer: 2 hours 500 lumens or 1000 lumens illumination then switch to Motion Sense. The timer starts when the light fixture detects that its dark outside.
- Motion Sense: Lighting at 150 lumens and increasing to 500 or 1000 lumens for 30 seconds when motion is detected. The range of motion detection is about 4 meters.
The remote control included with the unit is used to control both the timer setting as well as the brightness. It can also be used to turn the light completely off.
One additional feature we hope the manufacturer will add in the future is a full on/off motion sense mode where the light is completely dark unless motion is detected.
Again, this is one of the best products we have ever tested, and our team was surprised that it was able to perform close to specifications during the harsh Canadian winter. We would strongly recommend this light to anyone looking for an outdoor security light.
